Where to start…..? have you ever tried to write about yourself, it's actually quite a difficult thing to do & sound interesting at the same time, I’ve never registered with one of those dating sites, but I guess it’s a similar thing, mind you have you seen what a hash of it some people make! Anyway, I guess I’ll start with why we put the site together & go from there…
O-G-X was started at the beginning of summer 2005, for a few reasons, the first being, I’m an out and out enthusiast, to the point where, I will only drive a Landy, my tea in the morning comes from my SIIa mug, I read 4 magazines a month on the train to and from work, when the boss isn’t looking I’ll be surfing the land rover websites, visiting “that” auction site for good cheap parts or even vehicles just to fix & sell on (usually always making a loss) I do a little private off-road instruction, I’m the area Rep for GLASS in Bedfordshire, I’m also in several owners clubs aswell as owing a vintage military vehicle, a 1944 ex RASC Leyland Hippo, so you can see getting this site up & running, has been something of an inevitability.
One of the goals of the site, comes from having a huge favorites list, I’d like to create, not only a place dedicated to all the things we like to do to, on, in and with our Land Rovers, like meet like minded people, sell spares for free, but build a site that has THE definitive database of services & sites for Land Rover owners in the UK, that isn’t restricted by publishing rules.
The site's young at the moment, the bear bones of the database are done, we'll be making the odd change here & there as we go.
I'm really pleased to say that our T-shirt shop is open, that's what helps us keep the site up & running & grow the community, they are dear we know, but we only make £2 per T! eventually we’ll start charging for advertising space, but why don't buy one of our exclusive T’s & add us to your favorites.
A little about the posse then for the record.. I’m 33 years old, my partner Tor & I have a daughter called Jessica, we live in Stewkley in Buckinghamshire, apparently it’s the countries longest village, I work on interactive TV in London, Tor works for a commercial property development firm in Milton Keynes / London, we send Jess off to the local coal mine everyday………. I’m kidding of course, she’s only just had her first birthday! & anyway there isn’t a coal mine for miles round our way. Tor bless her, as I guess every “Land Rover widow” does, “tolerates” my passions.. but since I’ve sold the Range Rover & in the process of selling the SIIA, in exchange for my current Solihull product, an ex-army 110 with three comfy seats, she’s quite chuffed now.
I bought my first Series landy when I was 22, todate I think I’ve now owned 6 or 7, over the years, as Tor was brought up in Indonesia, she actually learnt to drive in one out there. My sister Lucy does most of the site development.
I don’t know what it is really, but I just love Land Rovers to bits, what they mean, what they do, what we can do to them, not to mention the owners themselves, I personally love greenlaning & kiting. Some of us are, by self admittance a bit geeky, some know everything, some drive the hell out of them, some of us even chop them up & then weld them all back together, but we’re all friendly folk, who always have time to chat, flash our lights & wave at each other in passing, I personally think I’m all of the above, so would my Mrs. especially, when I say being the geeky
one;-)
So drive well, look after our green lanes, check your blind spots for bikers, don't let you kids or your dogs get in the way of kite flyers or take a leak on the kites, keep on waving & road-trippin'
